Skip Hire / Waste Management

We operate a Licensed Waste Transfer Station and Skip Hire service covering all aspects of waste removal, site clearance and demolition services.

A public weighbridge facility and tipping facilities available for both public and trade

We have over 400 skips ranging from 3yd midi skips up to 40yd RoRo including enclosed lockable skips for the removal of most types of waste.

Recycled and reclaimed materials Type1and 6f5 crushed materials are readily available from our crushing plant. Screened topsoils and subsoils are also available. Specification certificates are available for all recycled products.

We currently recycle:
Paper, Cardboard, Wood, Brick and Concrete, Soils, Green Waste, Glass and metal.

We currently recycle over 80% of all waste tipped at our transfer station and are striving to increase our recycling rates even further.

Vehicle hire for the removal of waste/spoil is also available, as well as tipping facilities at our Waste Transfer Station.

Environmental Management

Colton Excavations was one of the first companies in the area to receive accreditation to BS EN ISO 14001 for its Environmental Management System.

Colton Excavations Ltd, take their role in Environmental Management very seriously and are constantly looking at ways to recycle waste materials on site, to minimise fuel usage and to reduce their carbon footprint.

The Group acquisition of Ken Thomas Site Clearance Ltd has enabled a number of alternative uses for materials, to be developed. One of the latest projects we have initiated is the blending and screening of chemically inert waste foundry sand with impoverished topsoil and green waste. This has created friable, porous topsoil with significant nutrient levels, as well as preventing over 4000 tonnes of waste per annum being disposed to landfill.

The company has several repeat clients which include Carillion (Civils and Building), Balfour Beatty (Civils) and Edmund Nuttall (Civils) as well as local authorities such as Gateshead Council,Durham County Council and house builders such as Persimmon, Bett Homes and Barratt. Most of our current work is local, within about 60 miles radius of Birtley, but we have travelled much further in the past.
